When considering a kitchen remodeling project the new appliances and present day concepts have revolutionized the whole makeover experience. More space is needed for the numerous fancy new appliances and work stations. Certain design principles have remained the same. The four basic cabinet layouts are a ā€˜U’ shape, a ā€˜L’ shape, the galley and universal layouts with a center island. The selection depends on the amount of space, the shape of the space and the location of doorways. Care should be taken when adding a kitchen addition so to plan the entire design with the end cabinet layout in mind. No matter how you dress it up the kitchen is essentially a workroom where efficiency is never out of place. The room is a series of work centers each with major appliances as its hub. For instance, the refrigerator, sink and dishwasher, and the cooking center of the oven, microwave and cooktop. Each center should have adequate and appropriate storage and countertop space. Additionally, these areas should be located in a relatively short walking distance. Often times we call the space a working triangle. Perhaps surprisingly is the rule of thumb that determines how much storage the room should have is based on the number of bedrooms. Studies show that each person (one per bedroom, two for master bedroom) requires six square feet of wall cabinets with an additional twelve square feet for entertaining. Then, as long as you fill in the remaining area under these cabinets with base units and appliances, you will be in good shape.
